How does paving work?
It is a process consisting of the placement of either solid stretches of asphalt or concrete bricks to make a road or driveway. A base supports every stretch of the asphalt and this is normally made of compacted gravel, which not only supports the asphalt but helps keep water from pooling as well. Only after the base is laid will hot asphalt be poured on top and rolled over by a power roller so that it becomes compact and strong. In the final step, the asphalt will be cooled with water.

Other types of driveways, like gravel, for example, are hard to clean and snow and ice cannot be removed as easily as asphalt. Should I seal paving stones?
It is recommended that you go through with this step because concrete can be a porous material and when water enters these pores, it will cause them to expand and contract as the temperatures change. Sealing your new pavement about six to 12 months after it has been installed can prevent this from happening and this time frame is recommended because it will allow your pavement time to settle.
